Computex 2007: CoolIT Systems Unveils Liquid-Cooling Solutions for ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, nVidia GeForce 8800 Series

CoolIT Radeon HD 2900 XT

With the recent release of new flagship graphics cards from ATI and nVidia, it was inevitable that water-cooled solutions for the boards would quickly follow to wring more performance out of the Radeon HD 2900 XT and GeForce 8800 series through cooling superior to passive methods. Several nVidia partners have already released 8800GTX cards complete with liquid-cooling systems—including Asus, BFG Tech, EVGA, and MSI—and more recently, MSI and Sapphire have announced water-cooled Radeon HD 2900 XT boards. But now CoolIT Systems is launching add-on water-cooled solutions for both ATI and nVidia's top cards.

CoolIT's solution for the Radeon 2900 (a mock-up is pictured) is notable for allowing the graphics card to take up only a single PCI Express slot, which means that it can support ATI Crossfire solutions of either two- or four-card configurations depending on motherboard support. The company claims that its system allows for superior performance, and CoolIT even has a video of the performance result of an overclocked Radeon HD 2900 XT on its site. The heart of the system takes up two 5.25-inch drive bays. The company has told us that the system will retail for around $300 and will become available in August. The Inquirer is also claiming that "at least one partner...plans to bring this product to market."

Meanwhile, CoolIT is also working on a cooling system for nVidia's GeForce 8800 series of cards that makes use of an existing liquid-cooler solution in your rig. Three thermoelectric coolers are placed on the GPU, which the company says will "amplify the performance a great degree" when coupled with a liquid-cooling solution. It's going to retail as an add-on for $120 and appear in about six weeks. The Inquirer got a first-hand look at the solution on the Computex floor.

Asetek liquid cooler for ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
Asetek introduces its liquid cooling solution for AMD’s latest and fastest graphic card,
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2. This liquid cooler is able to lower the GPU temperatures of the Radeon HD 4870 X2 by up to 28-degree.

With a lower temperature, it allows the HD 4870 X2 to have optimum overclocking potential. The solution is able to run completely silently producing noise of only 30 dB(A).
